Memórias de Baldwin - Project

Howdy!


Here is an old project developed by RedFoot Art studios. It is called Memórias de Bladwin (Baldwin´s Memories). We sent this project to a Governmet´s cultural contest, which would select and suport some projects for a short movie. 


We had registrated the whole screenplay (ya, we wrote a nice story!) and storyboard, but we kept it in low profile waiting for the result of the contest. Actually, as we had registrated the project, there was not need to keep things in secret, but we did it anyway.


But, hey ´fella, welcome to Brazil! It has been more than 8 months now and there is no clue when the result will be released (and, no: there wasn´t a definite date even when the contest started). So, to avoid the void: here is a small part of the whole project. I will shortly explain about it.

The Main Plot: The story happens in Londrina, a medium size city in the Paraná state, Brazil. Londrina was once the Coffee´s world capital, a period which made the city grows in warp 5 speed!. Unfortunantly, as we say here in Brazil: "all that is good is short-lived". A frost came in the year of 1975, which sealed the beginning of the end of the golden era of coffee here.

The story is about Baldwin a steam-train that made uncountable rides in Londrina, carrying  people, goods oportunities and dreams. Along the story, we see Baldwin as a unstoppable young train, representing the oportunities and growth that coffee brought to the city and his winter years, when the coffee era is long gone and Baldwin is an useless old train, abandoned in a museum.


When all seems sad and bad, Baldwin meet Mauro, an old man who started to work as museum´s janitor. Mauro came to Londrina long time ago, driven by the prosperity of the coffee. They both started to remember the good old times together, and Mauro shows to Baldwin how life is good again.

Olá!

Aqui temos um velho projeto desenvolvido pelo estúdio RedFoot Art. Seu nome é "Memórias de Baldwin. Nós enviamos esse projeto ara um edital cultural do Governo, o qual deveria selecionar alguns projetos eque se tornariam curta-metragens.

Nós registramos  todo o roteiro (sim, nós escrevemos uma estória bem legal!) e storyboards, mas nós mantivemos isso tudo baixo enquanto esperávamos pelo resultado do edital. Na verdade, como nós registramos o projeto, nãoi havia necessidade para tanto segredo, mas mesmo assim nós o fizemos.

Mas, hey companheiro, bem-vindo ao Brasil! Já se passaram mais de 8 meses agora e não temos nem pista  de quando o resultado será divulgado (e não: não havia nenhuma data definida desde o início do edital.).Então, para evitar o vazio: aqui está uma pequena parte do projeto. Eu explicarei brevemente sobre ele.

A Trama Principal:  A estória se passa em Londrina, uma cidade de médio porte no estado do Paraná. Londrina já foi a Capital Mundial do Café, um período o qual fez a cidade crescer em velocidade de Dobra! Infelizmente, como dizemos: "tudo que é bom dura pouco". Uma geada veio em 1975, e selou o começo do fim da era de ouro do café aqui.

A estória é sobre Baldwin, um trem à vapor que fez incontáveis viagens em Londrina, carregando pessoas, bens, oportunidades e sonhos. Ao longo da estória, vemos Baldwin como um imparável jovem trem, representando as oportunidades e crescimento que o comércio de café trouxa à cidade  e também seus dias finais, quando a era do café já se foi há tempos e Baldwin é um velho e inútil trem, abandonado num museu.


Quando tudo parece mal e triste, Baldwin conhece Mauro, um velho que começa a trabalhar como faxineiro no museu. Mauro veio a Londrtina muito tempo atrás, tragado pela prosperidade do café. Ambos começam a se lembrar dos bons e velhos tempos juntos, e Mauro mostra a Baldwin como a vida pode ser boa novamente.

Bom, acho que já é o bastante para uma "versão resumida". Grato por terem lido até aqui. Espero que tenham gostado e que, um dia, vocês possam assistir isso! Todas as três peças foram feitas à lápis e coloridas no Photoshop.

Sand Gladiator - The Process

Hello, fellas!


So, this time just a simple sketch. A sand gladiator, raising the symbol of his victory.


I made this piece to help a friend on his Graduation Conclusion Work. His research was about "the process of drawing", and he needed to record various artist doing their art. Well, one of them was I. =)


And here is the video of my drawing process (on of them). This video has its speed increased 6 times (with a keygen generator song, hehehe)

Dessa vez é apenas um simples sketch. Um gladiador do deserto, erguendo o símbolo de sua vitória.

Eu fiz essa peça para ajudar um amigo em seu Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso. A pesquisa dele era sobre "O processo de Desenhar", e ele precisava registrar diversos artistas fazendo as suas artes. Bem, eu fui um deles! =)

Aqui segue o video do meu processo de desenhar (um dos processos). Esse vídeo teve sua velocidade aumentada em 6 vezes (com uma musiquinha de gerador de keygen, ehehhe).

Espero que gostem. E desculpe por colocar minha cabeça na frente da câmera por várias vezes.

So, just to keep thing moving here (again!)

It is said that ART comes from inspiration and also from "out of the blue". Indeed, it was this case. I was listening to AC DC´s "Guns for Hire" while driving home and I suddenly got an urge to make this piece.

the n.1 is the original ideal, while the n.2 is a parody of the "Tropa de Elite" movie´s logo.

It also has a bit of "One Piece´s skull customization", of course

Então, só para manter as coisa em movimento aqui (denovo!)

É dito que ARTE vem da inspiração e também "do nada". Certamente, foi esse o caso. Eu estava ouvindo "Guns for Hire", do AC DC, enquanto eu dirigia para casa e repentinamente eu senti a necessidade de fazer essa peça.

A n.1 é a idéia original, enquanto a n.2 é uma paródia da logo do filme Tropa de Elite.

Ela também tem um pouco da "personalização de caveiras do One Piece", é claro.

It was made as a birthday gift.

Besides I have lerned some tricks to improve the quality of the stroke and painting, there is not too much to talk about it, hehehe



And, if you have noticed the "KA", she doesn´t has the tattoo, but I am working on turning her into a Dark Tower´s fan.

So, this one is a personal project that which I idealized in 2009, but only was able to finish now. (ya, it doens´t seem so difficult to render it, but you know... other project´s deadlines can turn a "walk in the park" into something VERY difficult!)

I guess you guys will undestand this joke. If you don´t, please, take your ass and go watch Star Wars while drink a bottle of Johnny Walker...

Last sunday was Father´s day here in Brazil. Actually, it is just a commercial day, but we use it to celebrate the fact that we have a father, to wish them health and happiness. (and also give them some gifts)

This was a digital card that the RedFoot Art studios made for all the fathers around the world. I gave this one to my own father, but with a costumized the message.

Nesse último domingo foi Dia dos Pais aqui no Brasil (se você é brasileiro, provavelmente não precisava ler essa parte). Na verdade, é apenas um dia comercial que usamos pra celebrar o fato de termos um pai e de desejar a eles saúde e a felicidade. (e também para presenteá-los).

Esse foi um cartão digital que o estúdio RedFoot Art fez para todos os pais ao redor do mundo. Eu dei esse aqui para o meu próprio pai, mas com uma mensagem personalizada.

Vegan-Zombie

Howdy!

This is the Vegan-Zombie project. It is a silly joke that appeared when I asked one of my firends: "What a vegan-zombie would say when he moans?" Well, the answer is: unlike of the carnivorous zombie, who says: "braaaaaaaiinnnsss...", he would ask  for something which does not harm the enviroment and does not cause living beings any suffering.


So, here are two versions of the illustration, one with a background and one without it. I thought that drawing the vegan zombie approaching  from a wheat filed  would make things a lot creepier (and there are no more excuses to prevent Arthur from not  drawing the background/enviroment.

There is also a screen with some zoomed details.


Hope you liked it. I am thinking to make a t-shirt with this piece.

Olá!

Esse é o projeto  Vegan-Zombie. É uma piada idiota que surgiu quando eu perguntei à um de meus amigos: "Oque um zumbi vegan iria dizer quando ele gemesse?". Bem, a resposta é: diferente do zumbi carnívoro, que diz "miooooolllooossss...", ele pediria por algo que não agredisse o meio-ambiente e que não causasse sofrimento à nenhum ser vivo.

Então, aqui estão duas versões da ilustração, uma com fundo e outra sem. Eu pensei que desenhando o zumbi vegan se aproximando de um campo de trigo deixaria as coisas bem mais assustadoras (e não h´pa mais desculpas que me salvem de desenhar um fundo/cenário.)

Há também essa tela com alguns detalhes ampliados.

Espero que vocês gostem. Estou pensando em fazer uma camiseta com essa peça.

Welcome Home, team!

Well, another one about the South Africa World Cup.

Brazilian team has lost, and now the country comes back to normal life. I was supporting Argentina, but it seems that i need to find another team...

So, I dont need to explain that joke for Brazilians.

But, if you are from another country: The nick-name of the brazilian team´s coach is the same of protuguese version of the little crazy dwarf from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. "Dopey"

and the text on the background is also the portuguese verion of the song: "Heigh-ho, Heigh-ho / It's home from work we go!"

The art was done quicky on Photoshop, in order to take the mood of our defeat.

O time brasileiro perdeu e agora o país volta à vida normal. Eu estava torcendo para a Argentina, mas me parece que terei de escolher outro time...

Então, não preciso explicar essa piada para brasileiros.

A arte for feita rapidamente no Photoshop, com a intenção de aproveitar o clima de derrota.

Samurai Wars

 

Here is a "big fish". A drawing that I made for Digital Artist Award 2009. Unfortunantly, I didn´t achieved a good position, but it was a good motivational for make this piece (nice excuse from a looser, hehehehe)
So, this art its a Jedi´s origins: I´ve tried to capture the battle of Obiwan Kenobi and Darth Vader on Star Wars - Episode IV - A New Hope. The jedis were inspired on the ancient samurais, so I bring that aesthetics to the illustration.


The Kanjis says (right to left):

"Finally we have met. The Circle is now complete. When I left you, I was but the learner. Now, I am the master!"

"Only a master of evil, darth"

I´ve made a really hard word scanning the textures and work on them. I hope you enjoy it!

Esse aqui é oque chamo de "peixe grande". Um desenho que eu fiz para o Digital Artist Award, de 2009. Infelizmente, não alcancei uma boa posição, mas serviu como uma ótima motivação para eu fazer essa peça (boa desculpa de perdedor, hehehe).

Então, essa arte é a origem dos Jedi: Eu tentei capturar a batalha de Obiwan Kenobi e Darth Vader em Star Wars - Episódio IV - Uma Nova Esperança. Os jedi são inspirados nos antigos samurais, então resolvi trazer essa estética para a ilustração.

Os Kanjis dizem (da direita para esquerda):

"Finalmente nos encontramos. O circulo está completo agora. Quando eu deixei você, eu era apenas um aprendiz. Agora, o mestre sou eu!"

Leap Year Nationalism / Nacionalismo Bissexto

Well, As usual at the World Cup fever, all the Brazil is glazed about this subject. And how could not fail to occur,  the RedFoot team also entered this!

I made this comic strip to the Guerra de Ilustrações, a monthly illustration contest here in Londrina, which gather many illustrators of the city. The theme of this month - obviously - was "World Cup".

So, here comes another personal project! I wanted to make an illustration based on a photograph (not to be so realistic, but to get close!) and then make some aplication on it.


I have always coloured my works on Adobe Photoshop, but in that project I tried to work with Corel Painter. It is a wonderfull tool, but I, who had never worked so well with traditional media, have some difficult to understand how the brushes works on that  work enviroment.  Anyway, here is the result!

Olá!

Bom, aqui segue mais um projeto pessoal! Eu queria fazer uma ilustração baseada em uma foto (não um desenho tão realista, mas algo que chegasse perto!) E então aplica-lo em algum lugar.

Eu sempre colori meus trabalhos no Adobe Photoshop, mas nesse projeto eu tentei trabalhar com o Corel Painter. É uma ferramenta maravilhosa, mas eu, que nunca trabalhei muito bem com mídias tradicionais, tive dificuldades para enteder como so pincéis funcionam nesse ambiente de trabalho. De qualquer forma, eis o resultado!

Primeiro, a foto original. Depois, a pintura e, finalmente, a aplicação.

“Marquis”

The “Marquis” is a bizarre result of anti-ethic and genetic experiments. Resulting in a mix of a human embryo with a pig, he is an abomination, hunted wherever he goes. After long years of fights, he found the abandoned lands of the Sítio, where he is tolerated by the other characters. Due to the heavy drugs he takes to live, his body is full of wounds, disease and boils. He has an enormous strength, but a limited intelligence



“Marquês”

O “Marquês” é um fruto bizarro de experimentos genéticos sem escrúpulos ou ética. Resultado de um cruzamento entre um embrião humano e um porco, é um a abominação, caçada aonde quer que vá. Após anos de fuga, encontrou as terras abandonadas do Sítio, aonde é tolerado pelos outros personagens. Devido às pesadas drogas e remédios que tem de tomar para viver, seu corpo é repleto de feridas e doenças. Possuí uma força descomunal e uma inteligência limitada.

Emília

Emília is an automaton, a robot with self control and conscience, made from iron and copper. Built by Viscount, she has a cunning sense and a super-human agility and strength. Viscount constantly creates new limbs and accessories for her. Since he takes self conscience, she wishes to be something more than a machine.

Emília é um autômato, um robô com consciência e controle próprios, de ferro e bronze. Construída por Visconde, tem sentidos aguçados, agilidade e força sobre-humanas. Viscount

Viscount is a scientist, an inventor, who does miracles with technology. He spends all of his time in his laboratory, built over the Sítio´s wreckage. He has unnumbered gadgets, which he uses to his “field researches”. He is the creator and builder of Emília.

Visconde é um cientista, um inventor que faz milagres com a tecnologia. Passa todo o seu tempo em seu laboratório, construído sobre as ruínas do Sítio. Tem inúmeras engenhocas, as quais usa para suas “pesquisas de campo”. É o criador e construtor de Emília.

Pedro

Pedrinho, now called Pedro, is a man who lives reclused in the wild forest, which surrounds the Sítio. Prisoner of his own childhood´s nostalgia, he lives isolated of society, mourning the guilt of his friend´s loss. Although he is 50 years old now, he still is a great hunter. He has an improved rifle, built by Visconde.

Pedrinho, agora chamado de Pedro, é um homem que vive recluso na mata selvagem, aos arredores do Sítio. Preso na nostalgia de sua infância, ele vive isolado da sociedade, lamentando a culpa pela perda de seus amigos.  Embora esteja com 50 anos de idade, ainda é um exímio caçador. Possui um rifle aprimorado, construído por Visconde.

O Sítio do Picapau Amarelo - Steampunk

The Project

The Concept Art: A second reading of “O Sítio do Picapau Amarelo”  project was created and developed by Arthur Parreira as his University Graduation Work of Visual Arts: Multimedia.
As the name says, the project is about a second reading of the characters of O Sítio do Pica-Pau Amarelo. A story was developed but, for reasons of size and deadlines, it was abridged so it could be included in the project.

“The Sítio has changed. The world has changed. Forty years had passed, the characters have grown u, and many have died. The happiness, the fun, the knowledge and the nature are just part of a memory. The sky now is grey and the minds of men move around themselves by gears.”

The project consists on the development of four characters: Pedrinho, Emília, Visconde and Rabicó. The aesthetic adopted for the second reading is the Steampunk.

Softwares Used

The Project was developed fully on open source software’s. This choice was made because the great “showcase” that the open source community´s users are. It was also desired to prove that it is possible to develop videogames using these softwares and therefore, reducing the costs.

The softwares used were:

In the next post, the characters and their shortly description will be published. Each character will have a creation sheet (informing physical  and psychological traits, references and archetypes), model sheets, ¾´s vies and, if necessary, detailed explanations about the equipments.



O Projeto

O projeto Concept Art: Uma Releitura de O Sítio do Pica-Pau Amarelo foi criado e desenvolvido por Arthur Parreira como seu Trabalho de Conclusão do Curso de Artes Visuais Multimídia.

Como diz o nome, o projeto compreende uma releitura dos personagens de O Sítio do Pica-Pau Amarelo.  Foi desenvolvida uma narrativa que, por motivos de espaço e prazo, acabou sendo sintetizada para não ficar de fora do projeto.

“O Sítio mudou. O mundo mudou. Quarenta anos se passaram, os personagens cresceram, muitos morreram. A alegria, diversão, conhecimento e a natureza são apenas parte de uma lembrança. Os céus agora são cinza e a mente do homem move-se por engrenagens.” 

O projeto compreende o desenvolvimento de quatro personagens: Pedrinho, Emília, Visconde e Rabicó. A estética adotada para a releitura foi o Steampunk.


Softwares utilizados

Todo o projeto foi desenvolvido em softwares livres.  Tal escolha foi tomada devido à grande “vitrine” que é a comunidade de usuários de software livres. Também desejou-se provar que é possível desenvolver videogames utilizando tal plataforma e, conseqüentemente, reduzindo os custos.

GIMP 2.6.7 (http://www.gimp.org/)
Inkscape (http://www.inkscape.org/)
Hardware:
Tablet Wacom Intuos 3 (6×8)
Multifuncional HP SPC 1510

A seguir serão publicados os personagens e uma breve descrição. Cada personagem terá uma ficha de criação (informando características físicas, psicológicas, referências e arquétipos), model sheets, imagens 3/4 e, em casos necessários, explicações detalhadas de equipamentos.

Here is another one. Made for a contest here in Londrina. It didn´t reached the first place, but was in the top10.


It was base on a poem, called "The Cat", by Valdir Grandini.

This is one of my portifolio. I illustrated a common joke here in Brasil. It was done during the university time.


It says:

Box 1:"And then God made Brasil: Without Tornados or Tsunamis, whithout vulcans or earthquakes and with plenty of water"

Box 2: "But wait to see what kind of folk I will put there..."
